Chef Challenge is Feeding the Gulf Coast’s fundraiser that brings together some of our area’s most celebrated chefs and restaurants for an evening of superb food and drink while they compete to win best dish of the night in their respective category. Guests also will enjoy live entertainment by Roman Street and a vast silent auction, all in the name of ending hunger.
Chef Challenge is held to help advocate Hunger Action Month (September). Hunger Action Month is a nationwide awareness campaign set forth by our corporate affiliate, Feeding America, that educates the public about the issue of hunger and helps raise awareness about our hunger-relief efforts along the Central Gulf Coast.
Tickets can be purchased for $60 prior to the event, $75 at the door.
Guests must be 21 and over.

Support the Backpack Program
Help support the food bank’s Backpack Program, which provides bags filled with food for children to take home on weekends. Children are selected by school teachers and counselors and are identified as having little to no food at home. $135 will provide backpacks for one child for an entire school year.
For every child sponsored at our Chef Challenge events, Columbia Southern University will match the donations up to $5,500.
World Food Championships Qualifying Event
We are pleased to introduce a new feature to the Feeding the Gulf Coast Chef Challenge – The C Spire Grand Champion Award presented by Alabama Coasting. All participating chefs are invited to enter their prepared dish in a Judged Competition taking place at the same time as the Chef Challenge. A select panel of WFC Certified Judges will evaluate and score each entry independently using the World Food Championships EAT™ methodology. This scoring system allows each entry to be judged consistently using three key criteria: Execution, Appearance and Taste. The chef who presents the single “best” dish will earn bragging rights across three Gulf Coast states and be awarded an enhanced Golden Ticket entry to the 2017 World Food Championships which includes a paid registration and a $1,000 expense stipend. In addition to the bragging rights and paid entry, the Grand Champion and all Peoples Choice winners will be featured in the Fall issue of Alabama Coasting Magazine (both print and digital versions).
The winning entry – having received the highest final point score – will be announced at the end of each of the three Chef Challenge events. The actual score will remain secret until the conclusion of all events and will be announced at C Spire Grand Champion Press Conference in late September.
