Every fall, we hold our annual Alabama Chef Challenge event in Mobile to kick off Hunger Action Month and to help raise awareness for those struggling with hunger along the Central Gulf Coast. Hunger Action month is a nationwide awareness campaign set forth by our corporate affiliate, Feeding America, that educates the public about the issue of hunger and helps raise awareness about our hunger-relief efforts throughout our service area.
This year’s 19th Annual Alabama Chef Challenge took place on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at the Fort Whiting Armory in Mobile, AL from 6-9 p.m.

World Food Championships Qualifying Event
Congratulations to Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast for winning our C Spire Grand Champion Award presented by Alabama Coasting at Chef Challenge! Their pan seared foie gras with fire roasted fuji apples and wild berry gastrique was delicious and we are excited for them to compete in World Food Championships in Orange Beach!

Support the Backpack Program
For every child sponsored at our Chef Challenge events, Columbia Southern University matched the donations up to $5,500. The food bank’s Backpack Program, provides bags filled with food for children to take home on weekends. Children are selected by school teachers and counselors and are identified as having little to no food at home. $135 will provide backpacks for one child for an entire school year.
